When mSATA was introduced, it was a computer-centric form of flash memory, intended for use in notebook computers and other thin devices that required powerful storage in a small form factor. Eventually, the low weight and small size of mSATA made it a desirable option for industrial devices as well as consumer products as a boot drive or for data storage.
