If you are looking for an embedded, board-level storage solution for a SATA-based design, then industrial mSATA SSD could be the right fit. Although mSATA was intended to be used for notebook computers and similar thin applications, it has been embraced as an embedded industrial storage solution. mSATA is small, lightweight, and easy to integrate mechanically, making it a top pick among engineers, and it is available in a range of different configurations.

 

Industrial mSATA SSD Technical Specifications

Industrial mSATA SSD offers the benefits of industrial grade embedded storage design, meaning it provides superior performance with a longer life cycle and more reliable BOM than standard models. The technical specifications are as follows:

 

  • 4GB – 64GB capacity
  • SLC flash (MLC flash available in commercial mSATA SSD)
  • -40 – 85 degrees C operating temperature
  • -50 – 100 degrees C storage temperature
  • 937 TBW
  • > 3 million MTBF (hours at 0 – 25 degrees C)
  • 145 MB/s read and 130 MB/s write speeds

 

It is also possible to customize the design of the mSATA SSD to fit your needs. Industrial mSATA SSD is compliant with JEDEC MO-300B form factor and compatible with ATA-7. It supports TRIM, NCQ (up to 32 commands), and ATA Security Erase, and has built-in protection against power loss-related firmware and data corruption.

 

SATA Backwards Compatibility

Industrial mSATA SSDs support SATA revision 3.0, which was introduced in 2008 to boost the theoretical data rate performance to 6.0 Gbits/s. However, they are also backward compatible to SATA versions 1.0 and 2.0 with SLC, and with MLC in the commercial version. The backward compatibility provides the best possible endurance combined with a variety of cost options to meet the demands of different embedded applications.
