Exploring Flash Memory Storage Solutions

Industrial SATA - Delkin Devices

Industrial flash memory storage solutions must work flawlessly in demanding environments in which temperatures, vibrations, and shock are extreme. Flash memory is the answer for these needs. There are a variety of flash memory storage solutions that can fit in a number of different devices and applications. For engineers and OEMs, flash memory storage provides the reliability necessary for industrial use. Here are some of the flash memory storage solutions that are available for industrial applications:

SD and microSD Cards

Both of these NAND flash memory products use the Secure Digital (SD) interface. They are available for industrial and utility use, with both SLC and MLC flash available. They are ideal for small form factors that need powerful memory that does not take up a great deal of space.

These memory cards offer large data storage capacities of up to 128GB, depending on the format. They also feature controlled bills of material, so they can be used in industrial applications without any risk of card changes compromising the effectiveness of the device. Both SD and microSD cards meet the exact specifications required by the Secure Digital Association.

USB Flash Drives

Many people associate USBs with consumer storage, but industrial USB flash drives are the ideal flash memory storage solution for many designs. These flash drives can be designed with multiple housing choices and in two lengths to meet the needs of the form factor.

The portability of USB flash drives does not diminish the ability of the drives to meet industrial specifications. Like all kinds of industrial flash memory storage solutions, USB flash drives can operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to +85 degrees C and withstand high levels of shock and vibration. Capacities of up to 64GB are available, and the cases can be designed with corporate branding or any other customization request.

eUSB

For the advantages of USB flash storage without the need for an external device, consider eUSB, or embedded USB. Embedded USB provides the same easy compatibility expected with USB storage, but it can be integrated directly into the application when a device does not have room for a traditional hard disk drive or solid state drive form factor. The 16GB capacity is ideal for loading operating systems and logging data. eUSBs come with multiple 10-pin head options in order to adapt to the design of the processor board.
