CompactFlash Cards & Delkin’s Unique Value Proposition
CompactFlash Cards, also known as CF Cards, were one of the first staples in removable NAND based storage solutions. They provided a robust cased, removable, and transportable form factor capable of supporting high capacities with a PATA interface that supported transfer speeds fast enough to enable their use in a wide, new variety of applications. CompactFlash cards rendered Smart Media Cards and “Mini” Card form factors obsolete. CompactFlash Cards began the salvo of solid-state solutions taking over the hard disk drive world. CF Cards gained quick traction in use in many applications. They were the mainstay form factor for the burgeoning digital camera world as well as seeing use in Industrial applications such as factory automation and field deployed devices such as data loggers and remote monitoring devices.
CompactFlash Cards soon became the cornerstone form factor for memory & storage requirements in embedded and industrial applications. Compact size and robust packaging made them popular as a durable solution that could also be easily transported, removed, replaced and upgraded without the pitfalls of moving parts and noise that hard disk drives have. CompactFlash Cards made with high reliability SLC NAND, partnered with rapidly evolving controller capabilities, then combined with advanced customizations such as conformal coating, gave designers of industrial applications the storage solution they had long sought. CF Cards solved much of the shock and vibe issues common in industrial applications and they also provided substantially increased protection against environmental conditions, including extreme heat or cold as well as moisture or corrosive air environments.
Even as new form factors and options have emerged in the NAND based storage world, CompactFlash remains as a stalwart, “Go-To” form factor for use in industrial applications. CompactFlash Cards fit the adage “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” particularly in designs that require or desire little or no change to the B.O.M. for many years or even decades. Newer form factors may offer faster speeds via different interfaces, but many legacy applications simply do not require those advanced speeds and features.
Delkin’s Industrial CompactFlash cards can help reduce your “Total Cost of Ownership” by allowing designers to avoid wholesale re-designs of their applications and products. Transitioning to a Delkin Industrial CompactFlash card is a much faster and cost-effective solution than ushering in an entire new form factor in a project redesign.

Delkin CF Cards are CHIPS and Science Act and Buy American Act Compliant! The CHIPS and Science Act is a US Federal Statute signed into law on August 9, 2022. The act provides roughly $280 billion in new funding to boost domestic research and manufacturing of semiconductors in the United States. The act is designed to strengthen US Manufacturing, protect US Supply Chains from shortages like we saw during Covid, while also boosting US job creation and job security. The CHIPS Act also aids in National security and prevents US Intellectual Property theft. Semiconductor manufacturers are eligible for a 25% tax credit on property that is or will be used for the manufacture of semiconductors or semiconductor equipment.
The Buy American Act requires domestic entities to procure US made materials and products whenever possible, within certain criteria. This applies to government agencies including the Department of Defense and related D.O.D. Subcontractors. The Buy American Act requires compliant products & components to be manufactured in the United States and for applicable entities to have 50% of their components sourced in the United States.
Designers of Industrial Applications know that being forced to redesign to a new form factor is expensive and time consuming. The redesign process also often leads to the creation of new problems within the system design. Delkin’s on-going support of Industrial CompactFlash Cards can help you keep your “Total Cost of Ownership” to a minimum and keep your design static, when that is optimal. Delkin is your ideal partner for long term, legacy, Industrial Compact Flash support. To learn more please contact us at: https://www.delkin.com/contact/
