What Is Industrial Slim SATA?

Today’s devices are becoming increasingly small and increasingly slim. As such, SSDs have had to keep up with the demands for powerful storage in small spaces. Industrial Slim SATA is one option. With Slim SATA, you get all of the power, compatibility, and reliability you expect from SATA, in a size that is right for constrained spaces. Here is a closer look at this SSD.

 

SATA Design

As with the all SATA designs, the specifications for the industrial Slim SATA are set by the Serial ATA International Organization, or SATA-IO. This allows OEMs to know exactly what they are getting when they use Slim SATA. Slim SATA brings the familiarity of the SATA design to thin and handheld devices. It can be used as a data storage device or boot drive, depending on the needs of the application.

 

Industrial Grade Performance

Industrial Slim SATA is designed to operate in extreme conditions. It has an extended temperature range and will operate in conditions as cold as -45 degrees C and as hot as 85 degrees C. It can also withstand high levels of shock and vibration without loss of function.

 

Industrial grade Slim SATA has SLC NAND flash memory. This kind of flash memory stores only one bit of data per cell, which provides the highest possible level of data protection. SLC flash also works faster than other forms, since the process of reading or writing a single bit of data on each cell is fast and simple. SLC flash outlasts other forms of flash memory significantly, which is an important feature for industrial devices and applications, in which failures can be significantly disruptive.

 

Controlled Bill of Materials

Another advantage of choosing industrial Slim SATA is that it will feature a controlled bill of materials, or BOM. With a controlled BOM, components that are essential to the functioning of the Slim SATA and that could affect compatibility will not be changed without advanced notification and a new product number.
