One of the first things that leads many engineers to SSDs is that they consume a minimal amount of power. For industrial applications in particular, power drains can reduce data security and cause problems with operations in the field. With a low power SSD, you can rely on the fact that your device will have a long life and that the important functions of reading and writing data will be performed as efficiently as possible. Low power SSD drives aren’t just reliable because of their efficiency. They are also more reliable than HDDs because of their design. HDDs rely on a mechanical operation in which data are written on a spinning disk. The disk is prone to failures, particularly in environments with high levels of shock and vibration. SSDs don’t have moving parts. Instead, they record data through a series of electrical charges. This makes them much less prone to failure than HDDs and allows them to have a longer lifespan than those drives.

Despite their low power demands, SSDs are much faster than HDDs. This is also because of their lack of spinning parts. For every read and write operation, the disk in an HDD has to power on and warm up to reach its maximum speed. Since SSDs don’t have any moving parts, they work much faster.
