Architecture of the SLC Flash Drive

Multi-level cell (MLC) flash drives store at least two bits per cell. In contrast, SLC flash drives store one bit of data per cell. SLC flash storage is always in one of two states. These are programmed (0) or erased (1). Although MLC devices offer higher storage capacities, SLC flash is often ideal for applications in which data longevity and reliability are crucial. Data can also be accessed quickly, since it is not necessary for the firmware to access multiple levels of data while performing read and write operations.
