Local Poway Company, Delkin Devices, Named Top ‘Toys for Tots’ Fundraiser Group in San Diego County for 2016

Delkin Devices Toys for Tots 2016Poway, CA. December 22nd, 2016 – Local Poway manufacturer, Delkin Devices, was named the top fundraiser for the Toys for Tots Foundation in San Diego for 2016, with over thirty-thousand dollars and more than fifteen-hundred toys collected and donated during their event at the Ramona Airport this December.

This was Delkin’s 10th year participating in the National Toys for Tots Foundation fundraiser. For the past decade, Delkin Devices has made it a tradition to encourage fellow colleagues, customers, vendors, neighbors, and friends to donate, volunteer, and help spread the message through the months of November and December, with all fundraising leading up to a toy drive that they put together every year at the Ramona Airport during the second weekend of December.

“We began working with the U.S. Marines and the Toys for Tots Foundation in 2006 with a modest 1,293 toys and just over $3,000 in cash raised that year,” explains CEO and President of Delkin Devices, Martin Wood. “Every year we set higher goals and gathered more support, locally as well as from partners from all over the country and the world. We run ads in the local papers, wallpaper our building in Poway with banners and drop off bins, send out hundreds of emails, and serve more than 150 hamburgers to volunteers at the Ramona Airport. We are really happy to surpass our goals for 2016, and hope that our efforts help spread a message of hope and give children all over the country something to look forward to on Christmas Day.  We owe a lot of thanks to all of our friends, partners, suppliers and vendors who helped make that happen this year.”

The Toys for Tots Foundation deemed Delkin Devices an official National Corporate Level Donor in 2015.  This year’s toy drive was held at the Ramona Airport on Saturday, December 10th, and included a collection of military vehicles and airplanes on display, classic cars from local car club, “American Graffiti”, holiday music, U.S. Marine Volunteers, and complimentary gourmet hamburgers for volunteers and donators. Local company, WakeWorld, joined the festivities with the official WakeWorld Tow Boat full of toys and a ten-thousand-dollar check to contribute.

Toys for Tots collects new, unopened toys, and distributes them to less fortunate children, allowing them to experience the joy of Christmas and receive a message of hope that otherwise would not have been there. The community action effort is meant to assist and guide these children, helping them to develop into responsive, productive citizens. Last year in 2015, the Toys for Tots program collected and distributed over 18 million toys to over 7 million less fortunate children.

More on Toys for Tots

The Toys for Tots program initially began in 1947 in Los Angeles, CA, and has since expanded to include 782 communities covering all 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.  The goal of the program is “to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them into becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.”  Since Toys for Tots first began, the Marines have distributed more than 512 million toys to more than 237 million less fortunate children around the country.  The Toys for Tots train logo was designed by Walt Disney Studios.
